The forced evacuation of children along with their parents from 90 settlements in Sumy Region began following a decision made on September 30. It was publicly announced on October 1. This evacuation is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of minors from communities in areas facing heightened security risks. The danger is posed by proximity of military operations or Russian border areas.

The settlements affected by the forced evacuation belong to the following territorial communities:

  • Bilopolska and Vorozhbyanska urban territorial communities
  • Krasnopil and Khotyn settlement territorial communities
  • Yunakiv, Myropil, and Mykolaiv rural territorial communities

Local social services, the police, rescue teams, and military personnel are assisting in the evacuation process. The Department of Civil Protection of the Sumy Region and the Sumy District Military Administration are responsible for providing timely updates to the public about the commencement of evacuations.

This follows previous forced evacuations in Sumy Region, including from settlements in Shostkinsky and Konotopsky districts. As of September 22, a significant portion of the population had been evacuated from there, such as nearly one-third of residents from Hlukhiv in the Shostky district.

The evacuations are a continuation of efforts to protect residents, particularly children, in areas bordering Russia that have experienced ongoing threats and dangers due to military aggression.
