Now Lviv is like a grandmother who guests come to – a Lviv musician about her city during the war
About the war, Lviv and why «Russians are worse than fascists.»
A conversation with a native of Lviv, musician Solomiya Chubai.
Solomiya Chubai: Now is the time to apologize, unite, and love. I now sing a lot of Christian music for myself. I am a person who believes, however I am not religious. I believe. The guys and I wrote a song based on the words of Yurko Izdrik. Now we are finalizing it.
In the song there is the following line: “A person always needs another. Man alone can do nothing.”
Yes, music is written during the war.
War shows who is who
Solomiya Chubai: The war strengthens certain features. Ukrainians are impressive. I have always known that we are kind, merciful, and gentle. Now I am constantly convinced of this. I recently remembered the words of my grandmother, who died at the age of 94.
She always said, «There is nothing worse than a Muscovite.»
She talked about the war. The fact that Russians came to the village, raped local women, stole, and created disorder. And when the Germans came and saw that my grandmother had no shoes, they bought some for her so she would not walk bare foot. They also handed out chocolates. She said that «Russians are worse than fascists.» I lived with it. Now I understand that if Russian blood is mixed somewhere, there is not very much.
Now Lviv is not my Lviv. There are almost 200,000 migrants. Now, I would call the city the grandmother or mother who guests come to. It became even more open and hospitable. We volunteer a lot, welcome many, and try to help as much as possible. We are all tired, including Lviv. But we are ready to accept everyone.
