Shelling by Russian occupiers damaged a historic 20th century library in the center of Chernihiv, reported Suspilne.

Journalists report that the roof of the building and windows are broken, and there are cracks in the walls.

In his morning address Vyacheslav Chaus, the head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration said that the occupiers had damaged civilian infrastructure overnight: libraries, shopping malls, and houses.

The library that was damaged is located inside a historic building, considered an architectural monument of the early 20th century. Formerly the building housed the Noble and Peasant Land Bank, later it was home to the State Regional Historical Museum, the Regional Committee of the Bolsheviks and the headquarters of the Hungarian military unit.

During World War II, the building was damaged by fire.
