Belarusians are displaying Russian flags on the street in several cities, reported by the Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
The appearance of Russian flags in Belarus is an annual occurrence serving as a reminder of its de facto occupation which came into effect on April 2, 1996 with the signing of the treaty of The Community of Belarus and Russia. April 2 has become a national holiday, the Day of Unity, that celebrates the friendship, common tradition, and historical values between the two countries.
«The self-proclaimed leader of Belarus is trying use such information manipulations that allows Russia to absorb Belarus as softly as possible. Over the course of 26 years, Belarus has become a springboard for Russia’s war in Ukraine. This would not have happened had the revolution of 2020 succeeded,” writes the department.
President Lukashenko even accidentally admitted that without him, Russia would not have been able to start a war. It happened during a meeting with the governor of the Penza region, the Center adds.
