russians use anti-personnel mines equip with seismic sensors in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts – General Staff
In Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts, the latest Russian anti-personnel mines with a seismic sensor have been used, reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
These mines are equipped with a special electronic unit, which is responsible for processing signals from the target seismic sensor and controlling the warhead.
«The electronics unit receives signals about the vibrations of the ground under the mine and compares them with available signatures. If the vibrations are similar to those produced by human footsteps, and have a sufficient amplitude, which indicates approach, the command is given to trigger the warhead, which flies to a height of about 1-1.5 m and explodes,” explained the General Staff.
These POM-3 «Medallion» mines are only produced in Russia.
«If you see such a mine under no circumstances should you approach, do not let other people near it and report the finding to the police or other law enforcement agencies of Ukraine,» said the General Staff.
