The town of Popasna, located in the Luhansk region and currently under occupation, serves as a rear base for the Russian army in the Bakhmut sector. Previously, Popasna functioned as a Wagner base.

Roman Vlasenko, the head of the Severodonetsk District Military Administration, made these remarks on Hromadske Radio.

«Popasna is arguably the most heavily damaged among other settlements in the Severodonetsk district. I refer to it as the foremost fortress of the Luhansk region because it has served as a defensive line since 2014. In reality, Popasna has been pivotal in supporting the rear of Sievierodonetsk and Bakhmut, enduring significant strikes from Russian artillery and aviation.

Today, Popasna is increasingly becoming a closed town, serving as a rear base for the occupying army in the Bakhmut direction. While previously a Wagner base, now, I believe, it accommodates other military units. According to our assessments, several thousand Russian military personnel are stationed there», — stated Roman Vlasenko.

Currently, estimates suggest that there are between 200 to 400 residents remaining in Popasna, with all communication lines severed within the town.
