«There is not a single person left who took an active part in the occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and 90% of it is not our work,» stated an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol.

It has been reported that one of the collaborators was killed in a car bomb attack. The deceased was an employee of the occupation penal colony No. 77, known for housing one of the largest torture chambers in Donetsk Region.

Petro Andriushchenko, the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, provided commentary on this matter during an interview on Hromadske Radio.

«He was one of the organizers of the torture chambers in Berdiansk and the Berdiansk district. Therefore, this can be seen as a fair and logical retribution, a ‘reward’ that has found its ‘hero.’ We’re not just talking about collaboration but active involvement in the organization of repressive measures and torture since the beginning of the occupation in the correctional facility where he was employed», — Andriushchenko remarked.

He mentioned the difficulty in accurately estimating the number of torture chambers in Donetsk region due to their fluid nature.

«For instance, there were two significant torture chambers in Mariupol. Presently, it appears there’s only one remaining in the city, but the status of the former pre-trial detention center in the village of Kamianske, Mariupol district, remains uncertain. While the number of arrests has slightly decreased compared to last year, resulting in fewer torture chambers, some have closed while others were expected to open. However, it’s challenging to ascertain their exact locations. I estimate there are at least 10-15 torture chambers in Donetsk region, including colonies and places of forced detention», — noted the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol.

Andriushchenko highlighted that Ukrainian collaborators in the occupied territories have often been targeted by Russian services rather than Ukrainian ones. He noted that while these processes have been temporarily suspended, they will likely resume in the future, as the Russian authorities aim to eliminate any witnesses to their crimes.

«If we consider the period from 2014 to 2022, before the full-scale invasion, there is essentially not a single person left who actively participated in the occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. And 90% of this is not our doing. These individuals simply cannot disclose the truth about their involvement, as they possess insider knowledge from the perspective of the Russian Federation.

In the case of Mariupol, the only factor protecting those involved in the organization is that the primary orchestrator of the ‘Russian world’ implementation in the city is State Duma deputy Sablin, who also happens to be an influential employee of the GRU of the Russian Ministry of Defence», — explained the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol.
