A missile and drone attack occurred in the Sumy region during the night of May 6. Air defense forces successfully shot down 12 Shahed drones, but a high-voltage facility belonging to Ukrenergo sustained damage in the attack. What is the current situation in the region?

Alyona Yatsyna, a journalist and co-founder of Kordon.media, provided insights on this matter during an interview on Hromadske Radio:

«Yesterday, two «Shahed» rockets struck a critical infrastructure facility in the city of Sumy, causing a citywide power outage. Approximately one-third of the region, including Okhtyrka, Trostyanets, Lebedyn, several border communities, and several other small villages and towns, also lost power. Within minutes, water supply in the city was disrupted, though it has since been restored. However, power remains unavailable throughout the affected areas.

From our window, we witnessed a significant fire at the infrastructure facility yesterday, so we eagerly await official reports for any positive developments. Overnight, the Sumy Military Administration announced that hospitals and essential facilities have backup power and generators, and they have deployed «invincibility points» around the city.

This morning, we drove around the city and observed debris in at least two districts, resulting in damaged houses and broken windows. Only trolleybuses capable of operating autonomously, without relying on mains power, have resumed service.

Overall, the night was incredibly tense and frightening for residents. Personally, I’ve never seen so many of my neighbors seeking refuge in shelters«.
