Advancing on Pokrovsk, occupiers solve several issues for themselves at once — correspondent
Pokrovsk is the gateway to Donetsk Region from Dnipro Region. The city is important to the Russian occupiers for several reasons, so the situation there is gradually deteriorating.
This was reported by Radio Liberty correspondent Serhii Horbatenko on Hromadske Radio.
«The city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Region plays an important role in both civilian and military logistics. From the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, the city of Pokrovsk has been the gateway to the Donetsk region from the Dnipro region. It was through Pokrovsk that a large number of civilians could evacuate to relatively peaceful areas of Ukraine. Pokrovsk is the last town before the administrative border with the Dnipropetrovsk region», — the correspondent said.
The Pokrovske direction is important for the Russians for several reasons, according to the Hromadske Radio source.
«By advancing here, Russian troops are solving several issues at once. The first issue is political, as they can reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region.
They are also solving several military issues. First, it disrupts military logistics for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Secondly, with the Russians’ advance on Pokrovsk, a huge grouping of Ukrainian troops in rear cities could be semi-encircled: Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostyantynivka», — explained Horbatenko.
According to him, although the situation is serious, there is no direct threat to Pokrovsk, given the complicated advance of the occupiers, including in the area of Ocheretyne.
As reported, a rocket attack on Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region on the evening of May 21 killed two people and wounded two others, including a 10-year-old child.
