President Stubb: Finland will do everything for Ukraine to win
President of Finland Alexander Stubb paid a working visit to Estonia, where he discussed assistance to Ukraine. He stressed that the entire security policy should focus on supporting Ukraine.
According to the Estonian leader, Europe is lagging behind in terms of providing Kyiv with weapons, Yle reports.
«At this stage, talk of sending troops is speculation, and Finland’s position has not changed. Finland will do everything for Ukraine to win», — Stubb promised.
The agenda of the Finnish leader’s visit to Estonia included bilateral relations between the two countries, security and defence, as well as energy issues and critical infrastructure. During a joint press conference with his Estonian counterpart, Alar Karis, Stubb said they also discussed Russia’s hybrid attacks, the events in Georgia, and the importance of supporting Ukraine.
Earlier, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said that Russia may be testing NATO member states on its western border, where Moscow has stepped up provocations against neighboring Allies.
His comments came after an incident in which Russian border guards removed buoys from Estonian waters on the Narva River, which mark the navigable channel and are reinstalled every spring. Estonia is awaiting an explanation for this.
The European Union also expects Russia to explain the removal of the buoys on the Estonian-Russian border on the Narva River and demands that they be immediately returned to their place.
In March, it was reported that Finland would allocate €30 million for a Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine.
