The Ministry of Defence of Canada has stated that Ukraine can freely use the tanks and armored vehicles provided to it in Russia.

This was reported by CBC News.

«The announcement comes amid growing speculation among military experts about how long Ukraine can sustain its offensive in Russia’s Kursk region.«

The day before, CNN journalists released a video showing a Canadian-made Senator armored vehicle crossing the Ukrainian-Russian border.

Canada has provided Ukraine with eight Leopard 2A4 tanks and several dozen armored combat vehicles. Ukraine also received hundreds of armored patrol vehicles, and several M777 howitzers. The Ministry of Defence of Canada stated that it does not impose «geographical restrictions on the use of military equipment transferred to Ukraine.»

«Ukrainians know best how to defend their homeland, and we are committed to supporting their capabilities,» said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence.

It is noted that Canadian assistance always complies with the requirements of the Arms Trade Treaty. This is an international agreement designed to reduce illegal arms transfers and human rights violations.

Events in the Kursk Region

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in Russia’s Kursk Region began on August 6. On August 12, Ukraine officially commented on these events for the first time. Kyiv stated that it already controlled about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory. Later, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained that the offensive was aimed at protecting the Ukrainian population, which was being shelled by Russian forces from the Kursk region.

On Hromadske Radio, an expert lawyer explained that Ukraine could agree with Russia to create corridors for the evacuation of the population to Russian territory. As a more extreme option, the expert mentioned the possibility of transferring Russian civilians to Ukrainian territory.

According to Rashevska, the evacuation of the civilian population of Kursk is necessary. She noted that it concerns about 200,000 people. According to Russian sources, 120,000 people have already left on their own for other regions of Russia.

Furthermore, the occupation of the Kursk region in compliance with international law does not violate the rules of war.

According to Rashevska, in accordance with the Hague Convention, the establishment of military commandant’s offices in the part of the Kursk region occupied by Ukraine would signify confirmation of effective control over this territory.

Later, Diana Butsko told Hromadske Radio’s Drive Time program that the Russian city of Sudzha, which is under Ukrainian control, does not appear battered, unlike the frontline cities of Ukraine.
