Zelenskyy meets with Indian Prime Minister Modi
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv. This meeting was reported by the Office of the President.
«President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi paid tribute to the children who died as a result of Russia’s armed aggression.»
Before their personal talks, the leaders honored the children who died due to Russia’s armed aggression. They laid toys at the Children’s Multimedia Martyrology site in Kyiv and observed a minute of silence in memory of the young Ukrainians who lost their lives.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin informed Zelenskyy and Modi about the history of the exhibition and the Russian shelling of places where children were present, including a missile attack on Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, Okhmatdyt.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 570 Ukrainian children have been killed. However, this figure is not final, as information from the temporarily occupied territories is not fully available. Due to constant Russian attacks, the number of victims is increasing. The Children’s Multimedia Project was created in June 2022 to commemorate the Day of Remembrance of Children who died as a result of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
Visit of Narendra Modi
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on an official visit, marking the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the country gained independence in 1991.
«The historic meeting is expected to focus on finding a peaceful solution to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been ongoing for more than two and a half years since the Russian invasion.»
Modi arrived in Kyiv on the morning of August 23. He is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a statement before his visit, Modi said that «no problem can be solved on the battlefield» and expressed India’s support for «dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability at the earliest possible date.»
As previously reported by the media, Narendra Modi plans to «share views» on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Modi’s trip to Ukraine comes a few weeks after the Indian Prime Minister visited Russia. The visit to Russia caused irritation in Washington, and Zelenskyy criticized the Indian Prime Minister.
