On the morning of September 4, the Russian army struck Lviv with «Shahed» attack drones and «Kinzhal» ballistic missiles, resulting in casualties and injuries.

The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, discussed the consequences of the attack on the city during a live broadcast on Hromadske Radio.

«The situation is very difficult. Rescue operations are ongoing,» Sadovyi stated.

He explained that the attack on Lviv was a combined assault using both missiles and strike drones. As of 10:52 a.m., the number of victims has risen to 47.

«We lost that which is the most valuable —people,» Sadovyi lamented.

Seven people died as a result of the attack, including three children. Among the deceased were a man, a 50-year-old woman, a 14-year-old girl, and two more children.

«The mother and three children of the Bazilevich family died. Yaryna Bazilevich was 21 years old and worked in our «Lviv – Youth Capital of Europe 2025» office. Her sisters and mother also died. Only the father survived, but he is in serious condition. In the center of Europe, Russia is exterminating entire families of Ukrainians. The Russians are killing our children, our future,» Sadovyi said.

The mayor added that approximately 70 houses were damaged, with some completely destroyed, including one architectural monument. A total of 47 people sought medical help, among them three children.

«Six people are currently in operating rooms. The situation is complicated, but we hope for the best from our doctors,» he noted.

Sadovyi also mentioned that residents from six houses are being evacuated and provided with temporary accommodation. Additionally, three schools did not open today due to the attack.

«People are alarmed. Two districts of the city were hit. We must restore life, despite the enemies’ efforts,» he added.

The mayor highlighted that restoring the destroyed historical monuments will be challenging and time-consuming.

«UNESCO does not make financial contributions to restoration efforts. Once we assess the damages, we will present them to UNESCO. We hope that UNESCO will reconsider its position,» he stated.

Sadovyi did not provide specific information about whether there are still people trapped under the rubble, asking everyone to wait for the conclusion of the rescue operation.

Earlier, Hromadske Radio correspondent Ivan Stanislavsky reported that the Russians struck residential buildings in Lviv’s historic center three times.
