107 people still remain in Vuhledar — Donetsk Regional Military Administration
There are still 107 civilians remaining in Vuhledar, Donetsk Region, where an active Russian offensive is underway. All children have been evacuated from the town.
Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, shared this information during a national telethon.
«There are still 107 people in Vuhledar. Fortunately, all the children have been evacuated.»
He added that Russian forces have nearly reached the city center. Due to the constant attacks, it has become very difficult to deliver humanitarian aid to those remaining in Vuhledar.
Filashkin also highlighted the challenging situation in Toretsk.
«There are currently 1,500 civilians left there. It is extremely difficult to deliver humanitarian aid because Russian troops are shelling all available supply routes with various types of weapons.»
The Situation in Vuhledar
As of September 30, the situation in Vuhledar remains critical. Russian forces are pressing from three sides, and a withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the area cannot be ruled out. This was stated by Dmytro Zhmaylo, co-founder and executive director of the Ukrainian Centre for Security and Cooperation, during the Drive Time program on Hromadske Radio.
According to Zhmaylo, Vuhledar is almost entirely destroyed. Russian forces have already crossed the Kashlagach River to the west of the city, and small arms battles are ongoing in the western part of Vuhledar. Additionally, the Russians are advancing from the east and in a parallel line north of the city, near Vodyane.
«In the Vodyane area, they managed to break through our defenses at the Pivdenodonbaska No. 1 mine, albeit at the cost of extremely heavy losses. Unfortunately, we may have to withdraw from this area to build new defense lines further north», — Zhmaylo explained.
He emphasized that while the capture of Vuhledar would provide the Russians with a certain advantage, it does not indicate that the front has collapsed or that a major breakthrough or rapid advance can be expected.
«The situation remains difficult, but even a withdrawal from Vuhledar will not mark a major victory for the Russians on this section of the frontline. Our Defense Forces have not only done everything possible but also achieved the impossible in this area», — Zhmaylo emphasized.
