There are 1,000+ women and children and 500+ wounded who hiding at Azovstal, in Mariupol – Vereshchuk

There are more than 1,000 women, children and more than 500 wounded at Azovstal in Mariupol, announced Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.

«Our military is not going to give up. But Azovstal has civilians – more than a thousand women and children, more than 500 wounded, among them the seriously wounded! They have the right to escape! We brought all this information to Russian officials. They know how many civilians there are, «Vereshchuk said.

She explained that it is currently impossible to approach the location, and even harder to create a humanitarian corridor: Russia is bombing, launching missile strikes, firing constantly.

«I want the whole world to know and perceive exactly what is happening at Azovstal. They (the invaders) do not want to go to any negotiations. And this is a war crime for which there will be punishment,» Vereshchuk stressed.

The day before Vereshchuk said that unfortunately there are no agreements on humanitarian corridors with Azovstal.

Russian troops continue to hit the plant with missiles and drop bombs on it. The Russian occupiers decided that the civilians were «Nazis» and planned to destroy them with three-ton bombs. They promise to «poison them with gas and chemical weapons.»

The Russian military began shelling the city on February 24. Currently, Mariupol is 95% destroyed by Russian shelling. The city has been fully under siege since March 1. Today, almost 200,000 Mariupol residents have managed to leave. Some of them – in the territory controlled by Ukraine, some – in the temporarily occupied territories.

Azov Special Regiment continues to defend Mariupol.
